Certified Ophthalmic Assistant (COA) (non-certified, experienced ophthalmic assistants welcome to apply). - The ideal candidate is someone with experience working in a fast paced and growing environment. Under general supervision, to provide medical and technical assistance and support for physicians. Performs ocular screening and assists in various aspects of data collection and monitoring asit pertains to building the patient medical record. Entering patient data into the electronic medical record prior to seeing the physician. Preparing patients for examination, diagnostic testing, and assisting with minor in-office procedures.
Qualifications:

Teamwork, good attendance, good attitude, and willingness to learn all aspects of ophthalmology assisting are essential.

Willingness to participate and contribute ideas and suggestions to improve office procedures, policies and relationships

Ability to work with staff and doctors to accomplish excellent patient care

Ability to learn electronic medical record entry.

Demonstrated sound judgment and composure with the ability to take appropriate action in questionable or emergency situations.

Maintains a positive, caring attitude towards patients.

Possesses a strong work ethic and a high level of professionalism.

Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing
Responsibilities: Patient workups, and obtaining patient medical history, and chief complaint

Checking visual acuity, IOPs, confrontational fields, APDs, amsler grid testing, dilation, EOM’s

obtaining proper consent/documentation for in-office procedures

Perform various diagnostic testing: OCT, FA., fundus photography

Set up patients for in-office procedures: lasers, intravitreal injections, intraocular injections

Maintaining cleanliness of clinic areas: autoclaving instruments, clean back office waiting rooms, stock/restock examination rooms with necessary supplies

Understanding/compliance with OSHA, HIPAA and other regulatory safety/office policies and procedures

Compliance with OSHA, HIPAA and other regulatory safety and office policies and procedures.

Prepares, cleans and sterilizes instruments and maintains equipment, disposing of contaminated items according to protocol. Keeps patient exam rooms stocked, clean and orderly.
Other Responsibilities

Travel between other office and / or surgery sites on occasion

Setting up equipment for doctors

Coordinating patient appointments at doctors’ requests for other testing or second opinions as needed

Cross training for front office duties and other duties as assigned

Willingness to attend continuing medical education classes to enhance skills
Working conditions and physical effort

Work is normally performed in a typical interior/office work environment

Light physical effort, requires handling of average-weight objects up to 10 pounds

Standing and walking about 85% of the day 4-5 days weekly

Minimal exposure to physical risks, such as operating dangerous equipment or working with chemicals.

Exposure to blood borne pathogens
Education: High school or equivalent (Required)
License:

Current Certified Ophthalmic Assistant

Non-Certified Ophthalmic Assistant will be required to obtain certification within 2 year.

Valid Texas Driver’s License
Education:

High school or equivalent (Required)Experience:

Required travel:

25% (Required)
Schedule:

Monday to Friday
Salary: $17.00 - $22.00 per hour (depending on experience and certification)
