Job Description
Purpose of Position: The CNC Machinist/Operator is a mid-level position. The employee is responsible for performing basic setups on their own and keep a CNC Machine running to produce parts for production. Essential Functions and Responsibilities:
Produces machined parts by operating a computer numerical control (CNC) lathe/mill machine; maintaining quality and safety standards; keeping records.
Review set up process sheets to determine set up procedure, machining sequence, and dimensions of finished work piece. Also uses designated programs.
Sets up Mills/Lathes by installing and adjusting three and four jaw chucks, tools, attachments, collets, bushings, cams, gears, stops, and stock pushers; indicating vices; tramming heads.
Loads feed mechanisms or remove finished workpieces by lifting material into position manually, with hoists, or cranes.
Insert instructions into machine control units to start operation; adjust machine feed and speed as necessary.
Install tools and attachments on machines; replace dull cutting tools.
Monitor the operation of the machine to ensure there are no problems during the operation. Communicate any errors to the set-up person or Machine Shop Supervisor without delay
Verifies settings by measuring positions, first-run part, and sample work pieces; adhering to company standards.
Maintains specifications by observing drilling, grooving, and cutting, including turning, facing, knurling, and thread chasing operations; taking measurements; detecting malfunctions; troubleshooting processes; adhering to quality control procedures and processes.
Understand and sets controls to regulate machining factors such as speed, feed, coolant flow, and depth and angle of cut, or enter commands to retrieve and input computerized machine control.
Reads, understands and interprets engineering and manufacturing drawings.
Enter computer commands to store or retrieve parts patterns, graphic displays, or programs that transfer data to other media.
Receive daily training/mentoring from Level 3 & 4 Machinist.
Monitor the operation of the machine to ensure there are no problems during the operation. Communicate any errors to the Machine Shop Supervisor without delay
Documents jobs and quantities ran using Job Tracker.
Maintains the work area and equipment in a clean orderly condition and follow safety regulations.
Qualifications:
High School Diploma or equivalent is preferred
Ability to perform intermediate CNC operations working from blueprints, drawings, and procedures.
Familiar with G-Codes and M-Codes.
Knowledge in reading blueprints and using measuring instruments.
Knowledge of basic tools and CNC Machines
Computer literacy specific to operating CNC Machines; Ability to use computer applications or other automated systems such as spreadsheets, work-processing, e-mail, and database software.
Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing
Ability to follow oral and written instructions.
